Each place in the Ribble Valley has its own special identity which has been richly formed over centuries of settlement. Clitheroe Contemporary seek to celebrate this uniqueness and share how we each feel connected to our environment.
What connects people to a place? What connects the past to our present and what connects us to each other?
Could it be characters from the past or present? Local folk lore, old stories, new stories? Or is it the landscape, architecture, landmarks, businesses? Or is it all of these? You decide what is most important to you and connect us all to it!

The Clitheroe Contemporary Plein Air competition 2024 is open to amateur, professional and student fine artists. From age 11+
Four hours only
(three time slots – Saturday 10:00-14:00hrs and 12:00-16:00hrs.
Sunday 10:00-140:0hrs).
All work must be submitted by the allotted close time. All work to be placed in The Trinity Hub anti room to await judging at 14:30hrs on Sunday 16th). All work must be stamped.
Pieces can be
- 2D or 3D.
- Abstract or observational.
- Any medium on any surface.
- we recommend any oil painters take part on Saturday 15th in order to allow some drying to take place
Registration will take place at the Trinity Community Hub at the start time of each of the 3 sessions.
There is a one off fee of £10 to enter into the competition.
entries can be paid for in advance via – plein-air-fee
FREE if you are a Ribble Valley resident school student age 11 – 18.
If you would like to take part without entering the competition element you are more than welcome.
Judging will take place between 2:30pm – 4:30pm
